Azra Aksamija

Azra Akšamija is an artist and architectural historian based in Boston (US) and Graz (AT). She is a Professor in the MIT Department of Architecture (opens in new tab), where she is the Director of the Art, Culture, and Technology program (opens in new tab)(ACT). She also directs the Future Heritage Lab (opens in new tab).

Rooted in the history and theory of art and architecture, Akšamija’s artistic practice and academic research explore transcultural aesthetics and artistic approaches to cultural preservation and in so doing, provides a framework for analyzing and intervening in contested socio-political realities.
